Our journey to the right EHS & ESG solution

Customer interview with Rhomberg Sersa Rail Group

Rhomberg Sersa Rail Group (RSRG) is an Austrian Swiss full-service railway engineering provider and offers a comprehensive range of railway construction, infrastructure, and service products. The company places health, safety and sustainability at the centre of its vision stating “we act reliably and sustainably, with maintained focus on both people and nature. We are constantly creating more efficient, safer and more attractive rail infrastructure.”

Robert Lackner, HSEQ Manager at Rhomberg Sersa Rail Group tells us about his decision-making journey and why they chose Quentic (powered by AMCS) both for EHS and ESG.

What motivated Rhomberg to look for new EHS and ESG solutions?

Digitalization and efficiency: With a global footprint and over 3,000 employees, with a decentralized organisation structure across 28 companies, Rhomberg Sersa Rail Group (RSRG) needed to move away from manual, Excel-based processes to improve overall efficiency and reduce redundancies. Digitalization was recognised as essential to sustain growth and maintain excellence without incurring substantial personnel costs.

How did Rhomberg consolidate decision-making in a large, global organization where each market operates autonomously?

Stakeholder alignment: Stakeholders from the worldwide SHEQ network, led by SHEQ Manager Robert Lackner, were actively engaged, with strong support from the CTO. SHEQ workshops were held and colleagues from around the globe participated, providing valuable internal perspectives. Tasks were assigned to everyone, ensuring comprehensive involvement. External stakeholders, including the Quentic (powered by AMCS) team, were also part of the alignment process.

Comprehensive evaluation: The SHEQ working group conducted a thorough market analysis and evaluation process, considering technical capabilities, usability, and the ability to integrate with RSRG’s existing systems. Quentic (powered by AMCS) stood out for its ability to meet all technical requirements and adapt quickly to RSRG’s processes.

Timeframe: As a decentralized organization with 28 companies and many stakeholders, it took about a year to decide from the start of the process. The majority of that time was spent working through their internal research and processes.

Why did you choose AMCS EHS and AMCS ESG solutions?

Holistic and Modular Approach: Quentic (powered by AMCS) offered a holistic solution with all necessary user-friendly modules on one platform, allowing for a global standard with flexibility. Its modular structure enabled RSRG to prioritize and implement different modules based on specific needs in various markets.

Multilingual Capabilities: The ability to separate database and backend languages independently was crucial for RSRG’s international operations, ensuring that the tool could be used effectively across different regions.

AI Document Reader: The Quentic (powered by AMCS) AI Document Reader efficiently extracts data from Safety Data Sheets into comprehensive hazardous chemical data records. By uploading PDFs, users can complete the process in one go, saving approximately 90% of their time, whereas before employees would have to manually input the data. This tool also enhances the quality of customer data within the Quentic (powered by AMCS) EHS management solution, offering significant business value through reduced correction efforts and improved master data quality. Speaking about the data sheet scanner Lanker said, “with this detection rate, that makes work unbelievably easier. We realized right away that this would be of great benefit to all of us.”

Positive ROI and Testing Outcomes: The ROI calculations were favourable, and testing through use cases yielded good outcomes, reinforcing the decision to choose Quentic (powered by AMCS).
